Long Beach, CA (Sports Network) - Cardell Butler led the way with 23 points,
as No. 24 Utah State pounded Long Beach State, 67-47, at the Pyramid.

Mark Brown scored nine points for Utah State (23-2, 15-1 Big West Conference),
which has won three straight and 20 of its last 21 overall. Mike Ahmad chipped
in seven points and seven rebounds in the victory.

Now sitting alone in first place in the Big West with Pacific a close second,
the Aggies have their eye on the top seed in the upcoming conference
tournament, where they will defend their 2003 title.

Kevin Roberts and Marcel Jackson each netted 10 points, as the 49ers (6-18,
4-11) dropped their seventh straight contest. Jibril Hodges posted eight
points and seven assists for Long Beach State.

The first half saw Long Beach State stay close to the Aggies. Midway through
the stanza, Hodges nailed a three-pointer to bring the 49ers within two,
17-15. The Aggies then produced a 10-6 spurt to move ahead by six, 27-21,
capped by a pair of Butler free throws.

Utah State held onto its lead and went into the break leading 29-23.

As the second half unfolded, the 49ers came within one, 39-38, when Lucian
Graham made good from beyond the arc with under 14:00 to play. From that
point, the Aggies jumped out to a big lead.

A quick 9-0 run allowed the visitors to take a 48-38 advantage. Two straight
Long Beach buckets cut its deficit to six, 48-42, but Utah State then embarked
on a decisive 19-5 run to close it out and cruised to the easy victory.

Game Notes: Utah State leads the all-time series, 30-21, and improved to 8-2 on the road
this season...Long Beach State is now 17-59 all-time against nationally-ranked
teams...Pacific is 14-1 in the Big West...Utah State has downed the 49ers in
six straight and won the battle on the glass, 34-29.
