CAL POLY SCORES EARLY AND HOLDS ON FOR
SERIES VICTORY OVER UC DAVIS



DAVIS, Calif. - Logan Schafer had two triples and
scored two runs, Brent Morel drove home multiple
runs for the second consecutive game and Steven
Fischback threw a complete game to lead Cal Poly
to a 4-2 win and a Big West Conference series
victory over UC Davis at Dobbins Stadium Sunday
afternoon.



The Aggies fall to 25-13 overall and 6-3 in
conference with the loss while the Mustangs
improve to 17-19 and 5-7. It was the first series loss
of the season for UC Davis.



The Mustangs scored two runs in the first inning
and tacked on single runs in the third and fourth
innings to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Schafer, who is
the older brother of Aggie infielder Justin Schafer,
had two triples and scored two runs to lead the
Mustangs' offense. Dorrell drove Schafer home
after each triple for his second multiple RBI game of
the series. Ryan Lee had an RBI single in the first
and Luke Yoder had a sacrifice fly in the fourth.



The Aggies cut the lead in half in the sixth inning
behind an RBI double from Jake Jefferies and an
RBI single from Ryan Scoma. Jefferies sent a ball
over the center fielder's head to score the first run of
the game and Scoma drove home him home two at
bats later with a single to left center field.



Mustang starter Fischback earned his first complete
game of the season and his third victory. He
allowed two runs off seven hits and struck out three
batters with just over 110 pitches. Bryan Evans got
the loss for UC Davis.



Jeremy McChesney entered the game in the sixth
inning and gave up just one hit and struck out two.
Justin Fitzgerald threw a perfect ninth to keep the
game within two runs heading into the bottom of the
inning.



Scoma opened the Aggies' half of the ninth with a
single to bring the tying run to the plate. The Aggie
batter lined out to the third baseman who threw a
rocket to first to double up Scoma. The last batter
grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.
Scoma and Evan Hudson each led UC Davis with
two hits.



The Aggies go on the road next weekend with a
three-game Big West Conference series at
perennial power Cal State Fullerton.
