UC Santa Barbara Holds Lead In Big West Commissioner’s Cup Race After Fall Season
Irvine, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara holds the early lead in the 2009-10 Big West Conference Commissioner’s Cup race after the conclusion of conference play during the fall sports season. The Gauchos won two titles this fall, one in Men’s Soccer and another in Women’s Cross Country. The Gauchos also placed second in two sports, Men’s Cross Country and Women’s Volleyball and finished third in Women’s Soccer to average 156 points through the five fall sports.
Cal Poly rests in second place with a 140.0-point average after winning the Men’s Cross Country title and the Women’s Soccer regular season title. The Mustangs also placed second in Men’s Soccer and third in Women’s Cross Country.
Long Beach State, which won the conference’s other fall title in Women’s Volleyball, rests in third place with a 112.5-point average in the four league sports the 49ers sponsor.
UC Davis rests in fourth place, the school’s highest seasonal finish in the standings since joining the conference two seasons ago.
The Big West Commissioner’s Cup, which started during the 1998-99 season, is presented at the end of the spring season to the institution with the top overall point average tallied from Big West Conference Championships. To determine the champion for the Commissioner’s Cup, total points are summed and divided by the number of championships in which each institution competes. Each sport champion is also given a 20-point bonus.
