On day three of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Draft, 17 Big West Conference players were selected, increasing the total number of draft picks for the conference to 25.

Long Beach State’s Jeff McNeil, one of three Dirtbags nabbed on the final day of the draft, was the league’s first pick of the day as the New York Mets 12th-round choice (356th overall).  He was followed by UC Santa Barbara’s Tyler Kuresa, who went in the 14th round to the Atlanta Braves as the 433rd overall pick. Cal State Northridge’s Miles Willams and UC Irvine’s Dominique Taylor both went in the 15th round, with Williams headed to the Miami Marlins and Taylor going to the Kansas City Royals. 

The Big West Conference witnessed two players selected on the opening day of the draft as Cal State Fullerton center fielder/closer Michael Lorenzen was selected as the 38th overall pick in the Compensation A Round by the Cincinnati Reds and UC Irvine pitcher Andrew Thurman was nabbed by the Houston Astros as the 40th overall pick and first selection of the second round.

Six Big West Conference players were selected on the second day, including Cal Poly’s Chase Johnson, who kicked off the day with a third round pick, 101st overall, by the San Francisco Giants.

In all, the Cal Poly Mustangs paced the conference with six selections and was followed by 2013 Big West Champion Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State and UC Irvine, who each had four picks apiece.  Three Gauchos were nabbed, two UC Riverside players were named and Cal State Northridge and Pacific each had one player selected.
