
For the first time in four years the University of Hawai’i women’s water polo team will be heading to the 2013 NCAA Women’s Water Polo Championships.
This is the fourth trip for the Wahine program and first since 2009.
They will compete at the Blodgett Pool on the campus of Harvard University in Boston, Mass.
The first matchup is Friday, May 10 at 4 pm PT
(1 pm HT) against UC San Diego.
The winner of Friday's UH-UCSD match will advance to Saturday's semifinals where they will face either USC or Pomona-Pitzer at 2:15 pm PT (11:15 a.m. HT). The loser will be relegated to the consolation bracket.
The Rainbow Wahine received the No. 4 seed going into the tournament after winning the Big West Championship in an 5-4 overtime win over four-time champions UC Irvine. This will be the second meeting between Hawai’i and No. 5 seed UC San Diego (25-13). The Wahine came out on top on March 30 in Honolulu, Hawai’i winning 9-6 against the Tritons.
This is the first trip for head coach Maureen Cole as head coach, her previous appearance in 2009 she served as assistant Coach. In all three previous appearances Hawai’i has finished fourth in the NCAA Tournament.
