Big West Honors 135 Student-Athletes on 2012 Fall All-Academic Team

2012 Big West Fall All-Academic Team

A total of 135 student-athletes from 10 member institutions were honored on the 2012 Big West Conference Fall All-Academic team for the sports of women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's cross country.  To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, complete one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically), and compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.

Women's soccer topped all sports with 42 all-academic selections while women's volleyball had 31 recognized.  Twenty-seven women's cross country student-athletes earned the honor and men's soccer had 21.  In addition, 14 men's cross country recipients rounded out the list of honorees.

UC Irvine led all Big West schools with 24 all-academic citations, followed by UC Davis with 16 and Cal State Northridge with 15. Hawai’i contributed 14 representatives, while UC Santa Barbara had 12.  Cal Poly (12), Long Beach State (12), Cal State Fullerton (11), UC Riverside (10) and Pacific (9) also had strong representation among the fall sports.
