Cal State Northridge men's soccer head coach Terry Davila claimed the Division I Far West Regional Coach of the Year award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for his efforts in piloting the Matadors to the Big West championship and an NCAA Tournament berth.alt

Davila, who just completed his 14th season at CSUN, led the Matadors to one of the program's finest seasons.  The Matadors equalled their Division I record for wins (15), finished 15-7-0 overall and ran away with the Big West South Division title at 7-3-0.  They defeated Cal Poly and UC Davis to capture their first Big West Tournament title and earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA's, the program's first since 2005 and the fifth overall.

Davila joins UC Irvine's George Kuntz, who earned NSCAA Far West Regional Coach of the Year honors in 2006 and 2008, and Tim Vom Steeg of UC Santa Barbara – the 2004 and 2006 NSCAA National Coach of the Year – on the list of Big West mentors receiving accolades from the soccer community.

Since the Big West reinstated men's soccer in 2001, Davila has garnered conference Coach of the Year recognition five times – 2002, 2003, 2005 (co), 2009 and again in 2012.  He ranks fourth in Big West history with 122 overall wins and second in conference victories with 62.

As the Division I Far West Regional Coach of the Year, Davila becomes one of eight head coaches in the country eligible for the National Coach of the Year Award.  He will be honored alongside coaches from the Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, North Atlantic, Northeast, South and South Atlantic regions at the 2013 National Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. that runs from Jan. 16-20, 2013.
