Five Big West Conference players were selected in the second day of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, joining Cal Poly's Mitch Haniger, who was selected on day one as the 38th overall pick in the Compensation A Round by the Milwaukee Brewers.

The 2012 Big West Defensive Player of the Year, D.J. Crumlich, was the league's first pick of the day as the Pittsburgh Pirates ninth-round choice (286th overall). He was closely followed by Cal Poly's Mike Miller, who also went in the ninth round to the Boston Red Sox as the 301st overall pick.

UC Santa Barbara saw junior outfielder Brett Vertigan selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 10th round and Cal State Northridge witnessed the Minnesota Twins grab Alex Muren in the 12th round. Cal State Fullerton starting pitcher and 2012 Big West Pitcher of the Year Dylan Floro went in the 13th round to the Tampa Bay Rays as the 422nd overall pick.

The final 24 rounds of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Draft is scheduled for Wednesday starting at 9:00 a.m. (Pacific).
