Chian Shot A 77 In The Second Round Of NCAA Championship

Philip Chian shot a 6-over-par 77 in Wednesday's second round of the NCAA Championship stroke-play tournament at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades.

Chian started the second round tied for 62nd after shooting an opening round 74, but fell in the standings to tie for 92nd after 36-hole score of 9-over 151.

The junior native from Covina began the day with in the afternoon wave from the first tee, where he would record his one and only birdie for the day. Chian would go onto to collect three bogeys and five pars on the front-nine for a 2-over.

On the back side, Chian ran into trouble beginning at the par-4 12th as he made four consecutive bogeys. He would end his second round making three pars in a row for a total of five for the back-nine.

Illinois' Thomas Pieters sits on top of the leaderboard by two strokes after shooting a 68 for a 5-under 137. Alabama (+4) continues to lead the field of 30 teams with a four-shot lead over second-place UCLA (+8).

The top-eight teams after 54 holes will advance to a three-day match play tournament for the NCAA title beginning Friday. Individual medalist honors will go to the top finisher after the initial 54 holes.

Final round of the three-day stroke play portion of the NCAA Championship concludes on Thursday, with Chian scheduled to tee off at 2 p.m. from the first tee.
