Shooting just 2-over 74 on Thursday, UC Davis’ Demi Runas marked two birdies to lead the Aggies on day one of the three-day competition at the NCAA Division I West Regional in Erie, Colo.
The UC Davis women’s golf team returned to the NCAA Division I West Regional for the fourth time in the past five years after clinching their third consecutive Big West Women’s Golf Championship title this season.
Hosted by the University of Colorado, the No. 23 Aggies started the tournament seeded eighth in the 24-team regional competition. The women’s golf team finished the first round 17-over par 305 competing with Pepperdine and Oklahoma and are tied for 18th going into the second round Friday, May 11.
Runas takes the lead for the Aggies tied for 32nd among the regional’s 126 players. Big West Freshman of the Year, Bev Vatananugulkit finished with a 76 tied for 54th, while freshman Blair Lewis had a 77 and is tied for 70th.
The 54-hole tournament, which concludes on Saturday, while being contested at Colorado National Golf Club where the top eight finishers and two individuals to the NCAA Finals in Knoxville, Tenn., later this month.
