Standings Shift As UC Davis Takes Lead After Day Two

All teams came out firing for the second-round of competition at the Big West Men’s Golf Championships, as the final results after day two remained undecided until the last group finished hole 18 at the La Quinta Resort, Mountain Course in La Quinta, Calif.

Pacific set the pace heading into day two with an 8-under par lead, but underestimated battling opponent UC Davis swooped in to take the No. 1 slot finishing 6-under for a total 570 after two days completed.  On individual’s, UC Santa Barbara’s Paul Otte had an impressive day with an eagle on the front nine to finish 5-under par for the day.  Otte started the second round in sixth but made a push to secure a top-3 finish going into the final fleet of competition.  

It was a back-and-forth scuffle between top competitors, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, Long Beach State and Pacific while the individual outcomes were spread across the conference.  The Aggies take the lead going into the final round of Championships followed closely by Pacific, just one stroke behind (571) and UC Santa Barbara three strokes behind leader (573).  Long Beach State secured the fourth position overall finishing second for the day 5-under par (577).

Reigning leader, Alex Edfort of Pacific made a final push on the last hole to regain his lead, finishing with three birdies and an eagle on the day (68-68).  Coming in for sole possession of second, Cal State Fullerton’s Mark Anguiano finished four under and, just one stroke behind chief leader.

The final round of the Big West Men’s Golf Championships will wrap up Tuesday, May 1 at the La Quinta Resort, Mountain Course with tee times starting at 7:15 am.  For live and up to date results you can follow here.
