UC Irvine leads the way after the first round of play at the Big West Women’s Golf Championship in San Luis Obispo, Calif., just 12-over par to top closest competitor by a five-stroke advantage.
The Anteaters hold the gain over UC Davis, who sit in second place with a 305 total after the first day of competition. Finishing close behind is Long Beach State, (306) just one stroke behind the Aggies for third respectively. Sitting comfortably in fourth is Cal State Northridge (313) followed by neck-and-neck competition between Cal State Fullerton (319) and Cal Poly (320). UC Riverside closes out the standings with a 322 total going into second round competition tomorrow.
UC Irvine’s Michelle Park holds the top spot in day one with two bogeys on the back nine finishing with a total one-stroke over par, 73. Teammate Michelle Yang is close behind helping lead the Anteaters just two-over par, collecting a pair of her own bogeys for a 74 total on the day for the number two slot.
The competition will continue in the three-day event of the 2012 Big West Women’s Golf Championships at the San Luis Obispo Country Club, teeing off Monday, April 22 at 9:00 a.m.
