The UCSB softball team (6-11) closed action at the Gaucho Classic I on Sunday by splitting a pair of games at Campus Diamond. The Gauchos downed Nevada (4-11), 8-1, in their morning game before falling to San Diego (4-6), 5-1, in the tournament finale.

Patton Pitches Cal Poly to Sunday Split at Cathedral City Classic

Junior righthander Rebecca Patton (above) matched a career high with 11 strikeouts on Sunday afternoon as the Cal Poly softball program completed play at the Cathedral City Classic with a 4-2 triumph versus New Mexico at the Big League Dreams Sports Park. The Mustangs, however, fell during the opening game of their Sunday doubleheader against No. 19 Oregon, 11-1, in six innings.

49ers drop a pair of games at Cathedral City softball tournament

Long Beach State dropped a pair of games at the Cathedral City Classic on Sunday losing to Long Island 5-2 and No. 15 Arizona 4-0.

The 49ers (6-9) return to action on Wednesday when they host Maine in a doubleheader in the team's first home games of the season. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Matadors Wrap Up Time at 2012 Cathedral City Classic

The Cal State Northridge softball team (1-14) concluded its time at the 2012 Cathedral City Classic. In their two games Sunday, the Matadors lost 7-0 to No. 1 California and 7-1 to San Diego State. Mikayla Thielges had CSUN's only RBI on the day, giving her a team-leading eighth on the season.
