A total of 127 student-athletes from nine member institutions were honored on the 2011 Big West Conference Fall All-Academic team today for the sports of women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s cross country. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, complete one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically), and compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.
Women's soccer led all sports with 39 student-athletes while women's volleyball had 30 recognized. Women's cross country had 27 all-academic selections. Men's soccer and men's cross country tallied 16 and 14 all-academic honorees, respectively.
UC Davis and UC Irvine led all Big West schools with 18 Fall All-Academic citations, followed by Cal State Northridge with 17. UC Santa Barbara had 16 all-academic representatives, while UC Riverside contributed 14. Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State notched 11 apiece along with Cal Poly at 10.
