In collaboration with ESPN and the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, the Big West Conference will launch a new ten-game distribution package on ESPN3 beginning Friday, November 25 with the University of Hawai‘i at Cal State Fullerton women’s volleyball match at 7:00 p.m. PST.
In addition to the opening women’s volleyball match, this year’s package will include two baseball, two men’s basketball, two women’s basketball, one MPSF men’s volleyball and two softball games. The addition of games on ESPN3 extends ESPN’s current five-year deal with the Big West, which continues through the 2012-13 season.
“We are excited about the expansion of our long relationship with ESPN to now include a number of games on ESPN3 in a variety of sports,” said Big West Commissioner Dennis Farrell. “The exposure will be beneficial for our student-athletes, coaches and fans. We are also very appreciative of the support from the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority.”
As the University of Hawai‘i prepares to join the Big West Conference in all sports other than football on July 1, 2012, the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority is also joining in partnership of this effort.
“We are pleased to be able to create these new exposures with the Big West Conference and ESPN3,” said Mike McCartney, president and CEO of the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority. “The distribution will allow us to continue to build and promote the Hawaiian Islands in our major marketing areas within the Big West Conference and nationally.”
ESPN3 is currently available in more than 70 million households through computers, tablets and smart phones and in 25 million households via Xbox gaming consoles.
“We look forward to showcasing Big West Conference events on ESPN3,” said Damon Phillips, Vice President, ESPN3. “This deal further demonstrates the network’s growth as a key outlet for top quality college sports.”
