The Big West Conference witnessed 28 players selected in the second day of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Long Beach State's Andrew Gagnon was the first to be named, going in the fourth round to the Milwaukee Brewers with the 100th overall pick. Gagnon became the eighth Long Beach State player to be picked in the first three rounds in the last four years, and the fifth pitcher, joining Bryan Shaw, Andrew Liebel, Jake Thompson, and major leaguer Vance Worley.
Big West Champion Cal State Fullerton led all Big West schools with eight selections. Nick Ramirez was the first to hear his named called as the Milwaukee Brewers nabbed the two-way player in the fourth round (131st pick). The next selection went to Tyler Pill, who was picked up by the New York Mets with the 132nd pick. Pitcher Noe Ramriez, who was drafted by the Boston Red Sox with the 142nd pick, rounded out the trio of Titans selected in the fourth round.
Long Beach State and UC Riverside had four players selected, while UC Irvine and Cal Poly each saw three players nabbed. Cal State Northridge, UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara had two picks apiece.
The final round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft begins at 9:00 a.m. (Pacific) on Wednesday, June 8.
