The final event of the 2011 outdoor collegiate season is upon us as the NCAA Championships are set to take place June 8-11 in Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Eleven athletes from Big West schools will compete with hundreds of other collegians in the battle for national championships.
Drake Stadium is one of the historic venues in track & field, having previously hosted the 1970 and the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track
and Field Championships, the 2009 AAU Junior Olympics and the 2010 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The 14,557-seat venue drew a record 41,187 fans for the '08 NCAA Championships.
All of the athletes competing in the national meet qualify for honorable mention All-America status. First-team U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America honors are awarded to those who earn any portion of a team point at the national championships, or reach an eight-entrant final. Second-team All-America honors are handed out to those whose final placing in the national meet range from ninth to 16th place.
