Cal Poly golfer Geoff Gonzalez, who battled through a pair of nine-over-par rounds on the first two days of competition in the NCAA Division I National Championship at Karsten Creek, carded a final-round 85 Thursday afternoon.

Following rounds of 81 and 81, Gonzalez posted a13-over-par total for a 31-over-par 247 total, tied for 146th place with Graham Baillargeon of North Carolina State. There were 156 golfers in the field.

LSU senior John Peterson won the individual title at 5-under 211 (74-65-72) and was followed by UCLA's Patrick Cantlay with a total 0f 212.

Also competing as an individual was UC Davis' Matt Hansen, who withdrew from the second round of the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships due to illness on Wednesday. He was unable to participate in Thursday's final round, bringing his standout debut season with UC Davis to a close. Hansen opened the 54-hole tournament with a 1-over 73 after carding three birdies on his front nine and shooting par on all nine holes of his back nine.

The Los Osos, Calif. native concludes an impressive first year with the Aggies that resulted in his selection as the Big West Conference Freshman of the Year. Hansen won the NCAA Southwest Regional in Tucson, Ariz. two weeks ago to advance to the national finals, becoming UC Davis' first men's golfer to compete at the NCAA Championships.
