Cal Poly's first appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championship came to an end today when the duo of Andre Dome and Alexander Sonesson were defeated in the first round by Jean Andersen and Ed Corrie of the University of Texas.
“We are disappointed with the loss, but what we accomplished as a team, getting into the NCAA’s and advancing a doubles team to the championships gives the guys a taste of what it is all about,” said head coach Justin McGrath. “This really gives our program something to build on for the future.”
The 9th-ranked Texas duo took the match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. The Mustangs battled back in the second set, down a break, to put the set back on serve, but the Texas team proved to be too much.
Dome and Sonesson entered the match ranked 45th in the country and concluded the season 12-6 in dual matches.
This was the first appearance for a Cal Poly doubles team in the NCAA Championship at the Division I level.
