CP's Gatel, UCR's Daly Garner Athlete of the Week Accolades

Cal Poly's Joe Gatel and UC Riverside's Katy Daly parlayed solid performances last week into Big West Men's and Women's Athlete of the Week honors, respectively.

Gatel, a senior from Huntington Beach, Calif., was the Mustangs' top runner at the Bill Dellinger Invitational. He led the nationally-ranked squad with a 21st place finish in 24:10, helping the team post a sixth place showing in the event.

Daly, a freshman from San Francisco, Calif., had a solid showing at the adidas Notre Dame Invitational. She finished the 5K course in 17:47, good for 75th place in the tough field of 178 runners and the top showing for the UCR women.
