Collegiate Baseball released its annual evaluation of NCAA Division I classes and four Big West teams made the 2009 Top 40 list - Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, Long Beach State and Cal State Northridge.
Cal State Fullerton, who advanced to the College World Series last season, ranked fifth on the elite list with an impressive recruiting class consisting of 12 freshmen, four junior college players and one four-year transfer. The Titans tallied an impressive 47-16 record in 2009 and swept their competition in Regional and Super Regional action to earn their 16th trip to Omaha, Neb. Once again, Cal State Fullerton was the only school from a non-BCS conference competing in the College World Series.
UC Irvine placed 31st with 15 newcomers - 12 freshmen and three junior college athletes. The Anteaters are coming off a year in which they advanced to the postseason for the fourth straight season, boasted the second-best winning percentage in conference history (.917) and received the honor of hosting their first-ever NCAA Regional.
The Matadors and 49ers rounded out the 40-team field, tying for 40th, while UC Riverside, Cal Poly and UC Santa Babrara were also recognized as having a top recuiting class.
Florida occupies the top spot with Arizona State and LSU making up the top three. Collegiate Baseball only evaluated recruited players who enroll at NCAA Division I Universities in the fall.
