UC Irvine Hosts Asics/UCI Invitational this Weekend

Lilyana Morejon and Cal State Northridge open their 2009 season at the Asics/UCI Invitational this weekend.

This week on the Big West cross country schedule sees a league school host a large meet as UC Irvine welcomes competitors for the Asics/UCI Invitational Saturday.

For the third consecutive year, the event will be conducted on campus at the Anteater Recreation Center Fields. This season UCI is expecting another large field for the meet after the numbers were so great a year ago that the races for both genders were split into two. Fellow Big West foes Cal Poly and Cal State Northridge are also slated to be among the teams competing in the meet.

There is only one other meet involving Big West schools this weekend as the two Northern California institutions head to Sacramento for the Hornet Jamboree hosted by Sacramento State.

The fourth annual event will be held on the Hornets' home course, Granite Regional Park, and features not only top collegiate runners, but also top high school programs and unattached runners as well. The Aggies competed in the race a year ago, finishing second on the men’s side and sixth among the women’s competitors.
