UCR's Martinez Finishes Second in 1500 to Cap NCAA Championships

UC Riverside's Brenda Martinez capped her time at the NCAA Championships with All-America honors in the 1500.

UC Riverside's Brenda Martinez picked up All-America honors during the final day of the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, capping a solid meet for Big West athletes. The penultimate collegiate meet of the 2009 outdoor season was held at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

Martinez used a late kick to take second place in the 1500 final, crossing the finish line in 4:13.97. It gave Martinez her second All-America accolade of 2009 after she claimed national honors in mile during the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. Martinez joined Cal Poly’s Julie Dufresne as the lone Big West athletes to claim All-America honors during the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Cal Poly's Jasmine Pickett also competed in a final as she participated in the triple jump championship. Picket narrowly missed All-America honors as she jumped 42-9.75 to finish in ninth place.
