In the first round of the NCAA Singles tournament, sophomore Jenifer Widjaja fell in her first ever trip to the tournament, dropping a 6-1, 6-2 decision to tournament No. 3 seed, Aurelija Miseviciute of Arkansas, on Wednesday, May 20. With the loss, Widjaja's inaugural season comes to an end as she finished her sophomore season at 18-5 overall on the year.

Playing at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station on the campus of Texas A$M, Widjaja, the No. 92 ranked player in the country, got off to a rough start against No. 2 ranked Miseviciute as she was held to just one service win in the opening set. After splitting the first two games, Widjaja suffered back-to-back breaks of her serve to give Miseviciute a lead she would not give back to open the match with a first set victory.

Looking to answer back in the second set, Widjaja held serve against Miseviciute through the first four games of the set, but a misstep in the fifth game again gave the higher seeded Miseviciute the one game cushion to capture the second and decisive set against Widjaja. Widjaja nearly broke back against Miseviciute in the very next game, earning a break point, and staving off a pair of game points, before finally relinquishing the service game to Miseviciute. From there, Miseviciute broke Widjaja a second time and captured her last service game to capture the second set, 6-2, and with it the match.

Miseviciute moves on to the second round of the tournament with the win and improved to 39-4 on the year. Last season, Miseviciute advanced to the semifinals of the singles tournament before falling to Baylor's Zuzana Zemenova.
