5/20/2009

UC Davis' Alice Kim stayed within striking distance of the lead at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship, shooting a 3-over 75 at Caves Valley Golf Club during Wednesday's second round and is tied for 16th place after 36 holes. Kim is making her second appearance at the NCAA Finals after having helped lead UC Davis to a 21st-place showing at the 2008 championship.

Kim earned her spot in the 125-player field with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA West Regional at Arizona State earlier this month. She'll enter the third round tied for 16th at five-over 149 with Stephanie Kono of UCLA, and Azahara Munoz and Jennifer Olson of Arizona State.

UC Irvine sits in 24th place after shooting a 316 Wednesday for a 36-hole total of 636 (320-316). Senior Jane Chin shot her second consecutive 75 and is tied for 20th with a two round total of 150 (75-75). Junior Patty Chawalitmetha is 88th with a score of 158 (78-80), while Lalita Patipaksiri is 107th after totaling a 162 (89-82).
