One team on the men's side and two individual athletes on the women's side advanced to the NCAA Championships following their performance at the West Region meet. The Cal Poly men's contingent will make its third straight trip to the national meet via at-large selection, while two UC Davis women's runners made the field as at-large participants.

The athletes will now head to Terre Haute, Ind, for the NCAA Championships which will be held November 24 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. The event will be hosted by Indiana State University.

The Mustangs claimed the trip to the NCAA meet on the strength of a seventh place finish over the 10K course. Daniel Gonia led the way for Cal Poly over the weekend with his ninth-place finish in 29:12.39 in the flat and fast course at the Stanford Golf Course. Evan Anderson was next for the Mustangs in 25th (29:49.10) followed by Troy Swier in 43rd (30:25.37), Andy Wright in 52nd (30:39.53) and Joe Gatel in 55th (30:44.37). Cal Poly was one of 13 schools nationwide to receive at-large selections into the national championships.

UC Davis claimed its first representatives at the DI level into the NCAA Championships in Kim Conley and Kaitlin Gregg. Conley finished the 8K course in 12th place (20:20.79), while Gregg was not far behind in 16th (20:24.27).

The appearances for the two Aggie seniors make them the first runners since Patti Gray in 1983 to receive berths into the D-I championship meet. In the past, NCAA Division II and III athletes could qualify for the D-I championships with good enough showings at their respective championship meet. Gray with the last UCD athlete to achieve that honor, which no longer exists.
