Long Beach State junior Hannah Grady (Coventry, England) and UC Irvine senior Victor Lamm (Paris, France) lost their first round matches in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Singles Championships Wednesday.
Grady, ranked No. 82 in the nation, fell 6-3, 6-2 to No. 12-ranked Megan Moulton-Levy of William & Mary as the 64-player tournament began today at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. The three-time Big West Player of the Year, Grady ended her season with a 17-8 record. It was Grady's second appearance in the singles draw, the first being as a freshman in 2006.
Lamm dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Albert Larregola of Virginia Tech in other first round action today. Lamm finished the season with a 22-10 overall record in singles. It was the first appearance by a UCI player at the NCAA Singles Championship since current Anteater head coach Trevor Kronemann and Richard Lubner in 1990.
Cal Poly sophomores Brittany Blalock and Steffi Wong take the court on Thursday for their matchup with Vanja Corovic and Marija Milic of Texas in the first round of the NCAA Women's Doubles Championship. Start time has not been set.
