Stretch Run Ahead for Big West Track & Field as Calendar Flips to May

Competitions from California to Iowa will be in the cards for the Big West track & field clubs this weekend as the action heats up for the conference teams just three weeks from the start of the league championship meet.

First up on the schedule are Long Beach State and UC Riverside competing in the prestigious Drake Relays. The meet, which has been dubbed "America’s Athletic Classic" will attract nearly 8,000 professional and amateur athletes, including collegiate clubs from 34 states, in the 99th running of the event.

The Drake Relays are not the only big-time event on the docket as the Oregon Relays and Tommy “Tiny” Lister Classic are also on tap this weekend for conference schools. Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge head to Los Angeles to take part in the Lister Classic, while UC Santa Barbara will head up north to Eugene, Ore., for the Oregon Relays.

A number of schools will pull double duty over the weekend as CSUN will head to the UCSB Triton Invitational in addition to the Lister Classic, LBSU takes part in the UNLV Invitational and UCSB Triton Invitational as well the Drake Relays and UCSB will also head to the meet at UC San Diego in addition to a club up in Oregon.

UC Davis has a meet for bragging rights this weekend as the Aggies host the Causeway Classic Dual against longtime rival Sacramento State. The winner of the dual receives points toward the Causeway Cup, an annual trophy given to the school with the most points at the end of the academic year.
