TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP PAGE
With two more conference matches to play, the Cal Poly men's tennis team is in position to secure the No. 1 seed at next week's Big West Men's Tennis Championship in Indian Wells. The Mustangs need to defeat both UC Irvine and UC Riverside on the road to accomplish that goal.
Two wins would pull the Mustangs into a first place tie at 4-1 with UC Santa Barbara. Based on CP's head-to-head win against the Gauchos on March 2, the Mustangs would earn the tiebreaker for the No. 1 seed while sharing the regular season title with UCSB.
UCSB becomes the No. 1 seed in the event that UCI beats Cal Poly. The Mustangs could drop down all the way to the No. 4 seed with a pair of losses.
The women's championship matchups already have been determined. Long Beach State, which went undefeated in conference play (8-0) for the second time in three years, is the top seed. The 49ers play the winner of the Thursday, April 24 play-in match between Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside. Other matchups feature No. 2 UC Irvine versus No. 7 Pacific, No. 3 Cal State Northridge vs. No. 6 UC Davis and No. 4 Cal Poly vs. No. 5 UC Santa Barbara.
