The Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team lost 3-1 at top-ranked UCLA in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Drake Stadium Friday as the Bruins struck for two early goals and never looked back, ending the Titans' season at 12-8-2.

UCLA jumped on the Titans at the 4:08 mark as Lauren Wilmoth's pass into the box deflected to Christina DiMartino, who redirected the ball across the top of the box. The ball settled on the foot of Kristina Larsen, who connected to the lower left corner for the 1-0 lead.

Just over three minutes later, UCLA took a 2-0 advantage as DiMartino crossed from the right side and found the head of McCall Zerboni, who placed the ball into the upper left corner.

DiMartino got involved again on UCLA's third goal of the first half. Fullerton's Jenae Gibbens was whistled for a foul for taking down a UCLA player in the box, which awarded the Bruins a penalty kick. DiMartino stepped up and knocked in her sixth goal of the year for the 3-0 UCLA lead.

The Titans continued to hustle in the second half and their efforts paid off in the 84th minute. Freshman Christina Murillo caught Bruin goalkeeper Val Henderson off her line and converted a pass from senior Stacey Thompson, who beat Henderson to the ball in the box. It was Murillo's fifth goal of the year and Thompson's team-high sixth assist of the season.

Fullerton created a couple of additional scoring opportunities in the waning moments but could not convert. The Titans were outshot 17-8 for the game as junior netminder Shayla Sabin made five saves. Her counterpart, Henderson, collected four saves for the Bruins.

The game also featured 28 fouls. Murillo and Brianna Buffington led Fullerton with two shots apiece, while Larsen topped the Bruins with four.

Cal State Fullerton, with the 12 wins, equalled its overall record from the 2006 season.
