Cross Country Schedule Hits Home Stretch Before Big West Championships

This weekend's schedule features several big meets as the Big West clubs prepare for the stretch run leading to the conference championships.

Cal Poly welcomes UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara and Pacific to San Luis Obispo for the Cal Poly Invitational. The meet will be run on the same course as the Big West Championships, giving the league participants a chance to run the course a couple of weeks before the event.

Meanwhile, Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State and UC Davis head to Baylands Regional Park in Sunnyvale, Calif., for the Santa Clara Invitational. The men’s event will be an 8K, while the women’s race will be a 5K run.

Three clubs will be heading east for competition against top-ranked teams as Cal Poly, UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara are making "cross country" trips.

The Mustangs and Gauchos join practically every club ranked in the men's or women's Top 25 in Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Pre-Nationals. It was at that event a year ago that the Mustang men and Gaucho women used strong performances as a springboard to the Big West Championships and eventually, solid showings in the NCAA Championship meet.

The Anteaters voyage across America takes them to Fayetteville, Ark., for the 19th annual Chile Pepper Invitational. The Festival brings in over 3,500 runners from across the country competing in amatuer, collegiate, high school and junior high races. The college men’s race will be a 10K, while the collegiate women will run a 6K.
