This week's Big West cross country schedule calls for a light week of action as only three clubs are slated to compete.
Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge and Pacific will hit the ground running in picturesque Malibu as the three squads are taking part in the Pepperdine Invitational. The men's race is schedule to be an 8K affair, while the women's jaunt will be a 6K.
A year ago, the Waves' men’s squad outdistanced the Matador contingent on the way to the championship. The Titans and Tigers will be two new competitors in the event.
Last week in the Big West, three men's teams and four women's squads were in action.
On the men's side of the ledger, Long Beach State and UC Santa Barbara competed in the prestigious Aztec Invitational. The Gauchos finished second behind the Air Force Academy with 85 points. The top runner for UCSB was Tim Aukshunas who finished the 8K course in 25:39. LBSU finished fifth in the 12-team field with 114 points, led by Dylan Jaedtke's sixth place finish in 25:42.
UC Davis was at the Sundodger Invitational and performed very well with a third place finish. Patrick Parsel blazed his way to an 11th place finish in 24:25 on the 8K course, the fastest time in the Big West thus far in 2007.
On the women's side, the 49ers and Gauchos also competed at the Aztec Invitational.
UCSB's women finished second (90 points) in the 14-team field, trailing only fourth-ranked Arkansas. Megan Lewis was the top finisher with a time of 18:04. LBSU finished in seventh place, led by Sarah Apgar's 15th place finish in 18:18.
UC Davis finished fifth in the Sundodger Invitational with 123 points. The Aggies were led by Kim Conley's sixth place showing in 21:22.
Pacific ended the Sacramento State Invitational in fourth place with 100 points. Micaela Klaus was the top finisher for the Tigers as she completed the 5K course in 19:24.
