The UC Davis women's golf team finds itself deadlocked in 15th place after firing an 11-over-par 299 on day one of the 2013 NCAA Golf Championship in Athens, Ga.

Southern California and San Jose State lead the 24-team field with a 4-under 284 and are followed by Duke with a total of 286.  Alabama sits fourth with an even-par 288, and UCLA and Purdue are tied for fifth after carding 289 to round out the top five.

Freshman Betty Chen is continuing where she left off at the NCAA Central Regional as she paced the Aggies on day one of the NCAA Championship with a one-over 73 to tie for 33rd.  Senior Demi Runas shares the 46th spot after posting a score of 74 and Amy Simanton sits T64th with a 3-over 75.  Andrea Wong and Bev Vatananugulkit shot 77 to find themselves tied for 89th.

This is the third time in six years that the Aggies qualified for the NCAA Finals, also advancing in 2008 and 2011.  The Aggies finished 20th two years ago for their best showing.

Twenty-four teams and 126 individuals will compete in 72 holes of championship competition during the course of four days. In the team play, the low-four individual scores for each team will count in each day’s total score.

Day two of the four-day event at the University of Georgia Golf Course takes place Wednesday, May 22.
