Big West soccer will enjoy the national television spotlight with four appearances this season on the NSCAA
College Game of the Week.
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America and FOX Soccer will broadcast 12 men's and eight women's games as college soccer's top matchups will be the highlight of the Friday night television lineup for the eighth consecutive season.
The Long Beach State women will travel to College Station, Tex. to face Texas A&M for a 7 p.m. (CDT) game on Friday, Sept. 7. The 49ers advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2011 NCAA Tournament while winning a school record 18 games. Nadia Link, the 2011 Big West Offensive Player of the Year, headlines the list of returnees. She produced the third-most points (42) in Big West single-season history on 16 goals and 10 assists.
For the fifth straight year, the UC Santa Barbara men's program will appear twice on FOX Soccer. The Gauchos host UCLA on Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. (PDT) in a rematch of a 2010 contest that drew a school record crowd of 15,896 to Harder Stadium.
UCSB then welcomes Big West foe Cal Poly on Friday, Oct. 19 in a renewal of one of the nation's most intense rivalries. It will be fourth time in the last five years that the two Central Coast clubs have appeared in front of the FOX Soccer cameras. Last year's battle drew 13,822 to Harder Stadium, the fifth-largest attended game in NCAA history. Kickoff for this season's battle between the Gauchos and Mustangs is 8 p.m. (PDT). The 2008 contest at Spanos Stadium in San Luis Obispo drew a sellout crowd of 11,025.
UCSB, St. John's and Virginia are the only three programs that will be featured twice during the 2012 season.
